Story of Zara

Zara was in her late 30s, a typical housewife and a mother of two children, married over 10 years. She had a supportive husband who made a decent income, yet money always seemed tight. It was a challenge taking each of the two children to dance and art lessons besides their schoolings, and not to mention all the monthly expenses.

Zara never felt like there was time for herself. In fact, if she did take time to do something for herself, she felt quite guilty afterwards. She tried to talk to her husband a few times, but he did not understand the situation. She knew that many women were facing similar challenges, but Zara did not have anyone to reach out to.

At first, she was apprehensive about therapy but wanted to change her life, so Zara signed up for counselling sessions anyway. Through those sessions she learned to develop some positive thinking skills. It was not just to think happy thoughts, but the skills really challenged some of her long-held self-sabotaging beliefs that kept her from finding inner peace and happiness.

Zara began to enjoy life more and more and her husband even commended how much happier she seemed these days. The best compliment was from one of her children who said, “Mom, you don’t seem cranky anymore!” She almost cried. She was joyous to connect better to her husband and children but regretted that she did not seek help sooner.
